Why CO₂ Laser Is the Better Choice for White LSOH Cable Marking

In the wire and cable industry, selecting the right Laser Technology is critical to achieving clear, permanent, and reliable marking results. Different cable materials react differently to laser energy, which means there is no single laser source suitable for every application.
Recently, Herten Laser conducted a series of marking tests on white LSOH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) cable, a material widely used in public buildings, transportation systems, and other safety-critical applications. Due to its unique material properties, white LSOH is often one of the most challenging cable types for Laser Marking.
During our evaluation, both UV and fiber laser technologies were tested. However, neither solution produced satisfactory marking results. The contrast was insufficient, and the marking quality did not meet the requirements for clear product identification and long-term traceability.
To overcome this challenge, our engineering team performed additional testing using a CO₂ laser system. The results were significantly improved, producing clear, stable, and highly visible markings on the cable surface. The marking quality demonstrated excellent readability while maintaining the integrity of the cable jacket.
This case once again highlights an important principle in cable laser marking: the best marking solution depends on the cable material itself. Rather than recommending a single laser technology for all applications, Herten Laser evaluates each material individually and selects the most suitable laser source based on actual testing results.
